How should I ask?
Write it the way you would say it. Statory reads that sentence as one of the eight kinds below, shows you what it read, and waits for you to confirm. Nothing runs before you confirm.
A question is read as one of eight kinds
This list is all of them — Statory does not invent a kind that is not here. If your question fits none of them it says so and lets you pick.

- PredictionWhich factors drive an outcome, and predicting it (regression, classification)

- Change over timeChange across time points (before and after, repeated measures, time series, survival)
- MechanismHow an effect works — mediation, moderation and paths (regression-based or SEM-based)
- Decision & alternativesRanking alternatives against criteria, and strategy analysis
These are read well
- One sentence on what you want to know — "Does satisfaction differ by department?"
- What against what — the groups to compare, the thing being measured, the time points.
- If you have data, upload it too. Even the column names make the reading much more accurate.
These are hard to read
- "Analyze this" — there is nothing to look at.
- "Just do everything" — no comparison, no goal.
- Three questions in one sentence — split them and each gets its own answer.
What happens after you write it
- We show you the kind we read. If it is wrong you change it right there — your choice is what stands.
- We show only what your data can actually support. Methods that cannot stand come with the reason why.
- You choose. There is no path where Statory picks and runs on your behalf.
Where credits are spent
Reading your question and picking a kind costs no credits. Anything that does cost credits is shown with a ⚡ and a number before you press it.
What happens to the question you typed
We keep the **sentence only** for 90 days, to see which questions still fall outside the eight kinds. It does not carry who asked, and the values inside any data you upload never go there. The privacy policy has the details.
