Welcome to Statory ("Service," "Platform," "we," "us," or "our"). Statory is an AI-powered statistical analysis platform operated by Yongchan Shim ("Operator"). By accessing or using statory.org or any related domains (collectively, the "Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

Statory is a browser-based statistical analysis platform that allows users to upload data, perform statistical analyses, and receive AI-assisted interpretations. The Service includes:

  • Over 110 statistical analysis methods (t-tests, ANOVA, regression, EFA, CFA, SEM, text analysis, and more)
  • Automated APA-style interpretation of results
  • AI-powered deep interpretation (via third-party AI APIs)
  • Data visualization (charts, diagrams, heatmaps)
  • Export functionality (PDF, Excel, clipboard)

The Service is provided "as is" for research, educational, and informational purposes.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that you have parental or guardian consent to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.

3. Account Registration

3.1 Account Creation

You may create an account using email/password or third-party authentication (e.g., Google OAuth). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

3.2 Accurate Information

You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information as necessary.

3.3 Account Security

You are solely responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. User Data and Privacy

4.1 Data Processing Location

Statistical computations are performed on our servers. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for the purpose of analysis and is not permanently stored on our servers after the analysis session ends, unless you explicitly save results to your account.

4.2 Browser Storage

During the alpha period, data may be stored locally in your browser (localStorage) for session continuity. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers except when you initiate an analysis.

4.3 AI Interpretation

When you request AI-powered interpretation, a summary of your statistical results (not your raw data) may be sent to third-party AI providers (e.g., Anthropic Claude API) for natural language generation. We do not send personally identifiable information or raw datasets to AI providers.

4.4 No Data Mining

We do not sell, rent, or share your uploaded data with third parties for marketing, advertising, or data mining purposes.

4.5 Data Retention

  • Uploaded files: Processed in memory during your session; not permanently stored on servers unless you opt in to save.
  • Analysis results: If saved, stored in our database and accessible only to your account.
  • AI interaction logs: May be stored for service improvement (see Privacy Policy for details).
  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account.

5. Acceptable Use

5.1 You May:

  • Upload your own data or data you have legal authorization to analyze
  • Use statistical results for academic papers, reports, business decisions, or personal research
  • Export and publish results with appropriate attribution to your data sources
  • Share exported results (PDF, Excel) as you see fit

5.2 You May Not:

  • Upload data you do not have the legal right to process
  • Upload data containing personally identifiable information (PII) of third parties without proper consent or legal basis
  • Use the Service to violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party rights
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or crawlers to access the Service without written permission
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
  • Use the Service to generate misleading, fraudulent, or deceptive statistical claims

6. Statistical Results β€” Disclaimer

6.1 Accuracy

Statory employs rigorously verified statistical engines that have been validated against SPSS output. However, statistical results are provided for informational and research purposes only. We do not guarantee that results are free from error in all circumstances.

6.2 AI Interpretation Disclaimer

AI-generated interpretations are assistive suggestions, not professional advice. AI interpretations may contain inaccuracies, oversimplifications, or mischaracterizations. You are solely responsible for:

  • Verifying AI interpretations against your domain knowledge
  • Consulting qualified statisticians, researchers, or professionals for critical decisions
  • Any conclusions, publications, or decisions based on the Service's output

AI interpretations do not constitute professional statistical consulting, medical advice, legal advice, financial advice, or any other form of professional guidance.

6.3 Publication Use

If you use Statory results in academic publications, we recommend:

  • Reporting the analysis method and software version used (e.g., "Analyzed using Statory, [date]")
  • Verifying key results with established software when required by your institution
  • Reviewing our Accuracy Report at /accuracy for verification details

7. Sensitive Data Restrictions

7.1 HIPAA Disclaimer

Statory is not a HIPAA-compliant service. Do not upload Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. If you are a covered entity or business associate, you must de-identify data in accordance with HIPAA Safe Harbor or Expert Determination methods before uploading.

7.2 FERPA Disclaimer

Statory is not a FERPA-compliant service. Do not upload education records containing personally identifiable student information as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. If you analyze educational data, ensure all records are properly de-identified before uploading.

7.3 Financial and Legal Data

Statory results do not constitute financial advice, investment recommendations, or legal opinions. Do not rely on Statory output as the sole basis for financial transactions, legal proceedings, or regulatory compliance.

7.4 Your Responsibility

You are solely responsible for ensuring that any data you upload complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies, including but not limited to data protection, human subjects research (IRB/ethics board), and confidentiality obligations.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 Our IP

The Service, including its design, code, algorithms, statistical engines, documentation, and branding, is the intellectual property of the Operator and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or brand elements.

8.2 Your Data

You retain all ownership rights to the data you upload. By uploading data, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process the data solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This license terminates when you delete the data or your account.

8.3 Your Results

Statistical results, tables, charts, and exported reports generated from your data belong to you. You may use, publish, and distribute them freely.

8.4 AI-Generated Content

AI-generated interpretations are produced using third-party AI services. You may use AI-generated text in your work. We make no claim of ownership over AI-generated content, but we also make no warranty regarding its accuracy or originality.

9. Service Plans and Payment

9.1 Free Plan

The Free plan provides access to basic statistical analyses without charge. Feature availability and usage limits may change.

9.2 Paid Plans

Paid plans (when available) will be offered through our payment processor, Paddle. Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record and handles all billing, taxes, and payment processing.

9.3 Alpha Period

During the alpha period, all features may be available at no cost. We reserve the right to introduce or modify pricing after the alpha period concludes. Users will be notified of pricing changes at least 14 days in advance.

9.4 Refunds

Refund policies for paid plans will be governed by Paddle's refund terms and any additional terms we publish when paid plans become available.

10. Availability and Modifications

10.1 Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.

10.2 Modifications

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes.

10.3 Beta Features

Certain features may be labeled "beta," "alpha," or "experimental." These features are provided without warranty and may be modified or removed without notice.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE OPERATOR BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
  • Damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service
  • Damages resulting from any statistical errors, AI interpretation inaccuracies, or data processing issues
  • Damages resulting from unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
  • Any amount exceeding the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Operator from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including attorney's fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any applicable law or third-party rights
  • Data you upload to the Service
  • Decisions or actions you take based on the Service's output

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

13.1 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict of law principles.

13.2 Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Republic of Korea.

14. Termination

14.1 By You

You may terminate your account at any time by deleting your account through the Settings page or contacting us.

14.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in harmful activity, or for any reason with reasonable notice.

14.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. We may delete your account data within 30 days of termination, except as required by law.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Terms on the Website and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

16. Miscellaneous

16.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Operator regarding the Service.

16.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

16.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

16.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
